Lobos de la Universidad Latina de México is a football club that plays in the Liga Premier de México – Serie A. It is based in the city of Celaya, Mexico.
History
On March 12, 2021, an agreement was signed between Celaya F.C. and the Universidad Latina de México with the objective of establishing a football team that would participate in the Liga Premier de México, which would bear the name of the university but would be based on the franchise that the club already had in that league. As part of the agreement, Celaya provided the soccer players, the coaching staff, the stadium and the training facilities, while the ULM contributed with the identity and the financial part, in addition to offering university education for the players incorporated into the team.
In April 2021, the university board made official the project to build a stadium to host the institution's soccer and football games, which will have a capacity to hold 1,200 spectators.
The team was officially entered into soccer competitions on July 30, 2021, when its entry into the Liga Premier – Serie A was announced, the club was placed in Group 2 of this category.
On August 3, Rowan Vargas was announced as the club's first manager. The following day the first players of the team were announced: Alejandro Padua, Ricardo Chávez, Rafael Rodea and Rogelio Calixto.
Der Verein wurde 1967 als Club Atlético Ecatepec gegründet und spielte zunächst in den unteren Ligen des mexikanischen Fußballs. 1988 gelang dem Verein der Aufstieg in die zweite Liga, wo er sich bis 1994 halten konnte. Nach dem Abstieg in die dritte Liga gelang 1997 der direkte Wiederaufstieg. In der Saison 2001/02 konnte der Verein die Meisterschaft der zweiten Liga gewinnen und stieg damit in die erste Liga auf.
In der ersten Liga spielte der Verein bis 2007, als er wieder in die zweite Liga abstieg. Nach zwei Jahren in der zweiten Liga gelang dem Verein 2009 der Wiederaufstieg in die erste Liga. In der ersten Liga spielte der Verein bis 2013, als er erneut in die zweite Liga abstieg. Seitdem spielt der Verein in der zweiten Liga.
Im Jahr 2017 wurde der Verein in Lobos ULM umbenannt. Der Name des Vereins ist eine Hommage an die Autonome Universität vom Bundesstaat Mexiko (ULM), die den Verein seit vielen Jahren unterstützt.
Lobos ULM ist einer der beliebtesten Fußballvereine im Bundesstaat México. Der Verein hat eine große Fanbasis und die Heimspiele des Vereins im Estadio Ciudad Deportiva sind immer gut besucht.
