Wikipedia - AS Phoenix Ulmu
Asociația Sportivă Phoenix Ulmu, commonly known as Phoenix Ulmu, or simply as Ulmu, is a Romanian football club based in Ulmu, Călărași County. Founded in 2005 as Phoenix Ulmu, the club situated on the banks of Mostiștea Lake reached the third tier on four occasions, a 2nd place being their best ranking.
History
Phoenix Ulmu was founded in 2005 and promoted for the first time in the Liga III after only one season. Distributed in the second series, Phoenix was ranked only 17th out of 18 and relegated back to Liga IV. In 2010, under the ownership of Vasile Tîrșolea, Phoenix won again Liga IV – Călărași County and after a promotion play-off against Nova Force Giurgiu, Giurgiu County champions, the team from Ulmu advanced again in the third tier.
After a first season in which the team finished 9th and saved from relegation, Phoenix chose to withdraw from the championship during the 2011–12 edition and disappeared for two years from the scene of the Romanian football.
Enrolled in 2013 in the Liga V – Călărași County, fifth tier of the Romanian football league system, Phoenix Ulmu failed to stand out for the next years being ranked 6th and 4th, then was excluded from the league during the 2015–16 season due to financial problems. This second exclusion was also the last for Phoenix which was now officially dissolved.
In August 2016, Commune of Ulmu re-founded the football team under the name of Mostiștea Ulmu, name given after the Mostiștea Lake that is in the proximity of the locality. At short time after, the Romanian businessman and ex-owner of the team, Vasile Tîrșolea took the control of the football club and in only three seasons managed to promote the club from Liga V to Liga III, road that included a promotion play-off and a surprising victory against the better rated champion of Bucharest, historic club FC Carmen.
In 2021, Vasile Tîrșolea, owner of the club withdrew his financing and the club went back to Liga V, under the previous name, of Phoenix Ulmu.
Der Verein wurde 1984 gegründet und spielte zunächst in den unteren Ligen. Im Jahr 1997 gelang der Aufstieg in die Divizia C, die vierte Liga Rumäniens. In der Saison 2000/01 wurde AS Mostiștea Ulmu Meister der Divizia C und stieg in die Divizia B auf.
In der Divizia B spielte der Verein bis zur Saison 2005/06, als er als Tabellenletzter wieder abstieg. Im Jahr 2007 gelang der Wiederaufstieg in die Divizia B, doch nach nur einer Saison stieg der Verein wieder ab.
In der Saison 2010/11 wurde AS Mostiștea Ulmu Meister der Divizia C und stieg wieder in die Divizia B auf. In der Saison 2012/13 gelang dem Verein der Durchmarsch in die Liga III, die dritthöchste Spielklasse Rumäniens.
In der Liga III spielt AS Mostiștea Ulmu seit der Saison 2013/14. In der Saison 2017/18 wurde der Verein Meister der Liga III und stieg in die Liga II auf. Nach nur einer Saison in der Liga II stieg der Verein wieder in die Liga III ab.
In der Saison 2019/20 wurde AS Mostiștea Ulmu Meister der Liga III und stieg wieder in die Liga II auf. In der Saison 2020/21 gelang dem Verein der Durchmarsch in die Liga I, die höchste Spielklasse Rumäniens.
In der Liga I spielte AS Mostiștea Ulmu nur eine Saison. Nach nur einem Punkt aus 30 Spielen stieg der Verein wieder in die Liga II ab. In der Saison 2022/23 spielt AS Mostiștea Ulmu wieder in der Liga III.
Der Verein trägt seine Heimspiele im Stadionul Comunal Mostiștea Ulmu aus, das eine Kapazität von 5.000 Plätzen hat.
