Rapla KK, also known as AVIS UTILITAS Rapla for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball team based in Rapla, Estonia. The team plays in the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League and the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). Their home arena is the Sadolin Sports Hall.
History
The origins of the team can be traced back to Korvpalliklubi Rapla (Basketball Club Rapla), which was founded in 1996 as a division of the Rapla Sports School. Rapla Korvpallikool (Rapla Basketball School) was founded in 2004. In 2010, they moved to the newly built Sadolin Sports Hall and Rapla's first team joined the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML), the top tier of Estonian basketball. The team also joined the Challenge Cup competition of the Baltic Basketball League (BBL) for the 2011–12 season. TYCO Rapla reached the Estonian Cup final in 2012, but were defeated by BC Rakvere Tarvas.
Coached by Aivar Kuusmaa, the team finished third in the Estonian League in 2015 and 2016. AVIS UTILITAS Rapla made it to the KML Finals for the first time in 2017, but were swept in four games by defending champion BC Kalev/Cramo. They came third again in the 2017–18 season.
In 2018, the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League was formed. AVIS UTILITAS Rapla reached the playoffs in the league's inaugural season, where they lost to VEF Riga in the quarterfinals.
Rapla hat eine erfolgreiche Geschichte im estnischen Basketball und hat sieben Mal die nationale Meisterschaft gewonnen, zuletzt in der Saison 2021/22. Der Verein hat auch mehrere nationale Pokale gewonnen und an europäischen Wettbewerben wie dem FIBA Europe Cup und dem FIBA EuroCup teilgenommen.
Zu den bemerkenswerten Spielern, die für Rapla gespielt haben, gehören Timo Eichhorn, Kristjan Kangur, Sten Sokk und Sander Raieste. Der Verein ist auch für seine starke Jugendarbeit bekannt und hat mehrere Spieler für die estnische Nationalmannschaft hervorgebracht.
Raplas Heimspiele finden in der Sadolin Sports Hall in Rapla statt, die eine Kapazität von etwa 1.000 Zuschauern hat. Der Verein ist bekannt für seine leidenschaftlichen Fans, die eine lautstarke und unterstützende Atmosphäre schaffen.
In der Saison 2022/23 wird Rapla von Karel Van Hoorne trainiert. Der Kader des Vereins besteht aus einer Mischung aus erfahrenen estnischen Spielern und jungen ausländischen Talenten. Rapla strebt danach, in der heimischen Liga erfolgreich zu sein und in europäischen Wettbewerben gute Leistungen zu zeigen.
